Minimum qualifications:

  • Qualified to practice employment law in United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, or France.
  • Experience advising multinational corporations on employment law issues as an in-house lawyer (including secondments) or at a law firm.
  • Ability to speak and write in English fluently.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in working with and influencing clients on high-value, multi-jurisdictional mergers and acquisitions, employee transfer arrangements, and commercial agreements.
  • Experience working in a regional employment legal role and on HR projects across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Extensive knowledge of employment law and practice (including experience with European and local works councils, Acquired Rights Directive, or equivalent legislation and extended workforce issues) in multiple EMEA jurisdictions.
  • Ability to identify issues and manage advisory work and projects autonomously and proactively, engaging relevant stakeholders as needed.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate difficult legal concepts concisely.

Your primary responsibilities will be to provide employment legal advice related to Google’s corporate development activity, commercial agreements, extended workforce (temporary staff, vendors and contractors), new entity creation, and new business models (including the establishment and operation of other Alphabet businesses). This is a regional role and its scope includes all of the countries in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) where Google operates. Your aim will be to achieve consistency and compliance with local employment law, regulations, and practice, whilst at the same time recognizing the flexible and innovative place that Google strives to be. You can prioritize the demands of multiple regional and global internal clients, and are flexible enough to adapt to their needs in what can be a fast-paced and evolving environment. With the ability to work collaboratively and a willingness to partner on initiatives, you will influence all aspects of Google’s relationship with employees.

  • Advise on employment legal issues connected to mergers and acquisitions (including integration planning and employee transition arrangements), divestments, and setting up new entities and business models (including new employment models for specialized workforces) and commercial agreements with suppliers, customers, and partners.
  • Advise on extended workforce risk, investigations, and policy development matters relating to temporary staff, vendors, and other categories of worker, including employment status and compliance issues.
  • Advise on litigation connected to areas of primary responsibility working with regional and outside counsel to implement strategy, report on lessons learned and opportunities to improve people policies and practices to mitigate risk.
  • Participate in cross-functional HR projects of varying levels of complexity, providing employment legal advice to project teams and program managers, including identifying risks and mitigation strategies and collaborating to drive projects to completion.
