Immigration Solicitors (0-2 years PQE)

Salary range (according to PQE): £36,000 – £40,000

We are looking for dynamic individuals, with the ability to source their own clients and committed to running a privately funded immigration caseload or a legal aid caseload made up of judicial review and appeals in the Upper Tier Tribunal (or a mix of both). Immigration Caseworkers / Trainee Solicitors

Salary range: £27,352 – £32,000

We are looking for individuals committed to building a career in immigration and asylum law. For the Caseworker role you will need to be accredited under the Law Society Immigration and Asylum Accreditation scheme at any level. For the Trainee Solicitor role you will need to have (a) passed the LPC or be studying for it part-time, or (b) passed SQE1; and (c) successfully complete a 6-month probationary period with us before the Training Contract starts.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential requirements

1. Qualifications and Experience :

1.1 0-2 year PQE if applying for the solicitor role.

1.2 Passed LPC or SQE1 or (currently enrolled on a course of study for the LPC or part-time) if applying for the caseworker/trainee solicitor role

2. Practice skills:

2.1 Interviewing skills – ability to interview clients, take their instructions and advise them on immigration and asylum law.

2.2 Ability to communicate clearly & effectively in oral and written English – so as to advise clients and, make written representations.

2.3 Ability to prioritise own workload – in a busy and deadline driven environment

2.4 Ability to deal effectively with bureaucracy – such as the Home Office and the Legal Aid Agency

2.5 Ability to conduct research, both legal and evidential

2.6 Ability to use IT systems, be self servicing in respect to document production and learn new IT skills as required

2.7 Time management skills – to manage your time effectively and record time spent. To meet a daily target of recording 6 chargeable hours

2.8 Commercial awareness and appreciation of the financial demands placed on private practice law firms undertaking a mix of legal aid and private work and the ability to bill work to the value of 2.7 times your salary each year.

2.9 A knowledge of immigration and/or asylum law or the ability to gain it quickly

3. Desirable requirements:

3.1 Class 2:1 undergraduate degree.

3.2 Undergraduate or post graduate studies relating to immigration, refugee or human rights law, or voluntary, paid, or campaign work concerning refugees, immigrant communities or human rights.

3.3 Previous experience of conducting immigration and/or asylum casework

3.4 Accreditation under the Law Society Immigration and Asylum Accreditation scheme.

3.5 A following of clients if applying for the solicitor role.
