£59,290 per annum inclusive of Inner London Weighting and a Market Forces Supplement of £9,480 pa on top of the annual salary which may be withdrawn, reduced or increased during the year.
The City of London Corporation is the local authority for the Square Mile. We carry out the usual functions of a local authority, but we also have important wider responsibilities for areas you might not associate with the City – the Barbican Centre, the City of London Police, open spaces such as Hampstead Heath, and markets such as Smithfield are examples which bring a unique and interesting flavour to this post of Principal Lawyer.
We are seeking to recruit a qualified lawyer or unadmitted lawyer who can demonstrate excellent legal, technical and professional skills to advise on a wide range of legal issues, including all aspects of contract and procurement law and preferably have proven experience of working with a UK police on contracts and procurement matters. The post holder will be required to work independently and manage a large case load comprising a wide variety of contracts including sponsorship agreements and contracts for filming within the square mile, as well as contracts where the City is providing a service to the wider market e.g. Barbican touring contracts, outsourcing and I.T. contracts, along with instructing external counsel or law firms as required. Applicants will have experience of working on complex multi-party contracts involving public bodies or a mixture of public and private bodies and be able to demonstrate an ability to quickly adapt to new and innovative ways of procuring goods and services. Applicants from both public sector and private practice backgrounds will be considered and they will be solicitors or barristers FILEX/CILEX members with at least 5 years post qualification experience or unadmitted lawyer with substantial equivalent experience.
