Job Description

About us

If you’re part of the Environment Agency (EA), you’re part of the solution. Working with us means protecting and improving the environment and tackling issues of national importance. We’re based across England, and our responsibilities span industry regulation, flood defences, land contamination, water quality, fisheries and conservation.

Such broad scope of work calls for diverse, multi-skilled teams. Together, we’ll promote sustainable growth, tackle climate change and secure a better future for everyone.

Your role with us

You’ll have the opportunity to use your legal skills to deliver better outcomes for the environment, wildlife and human health. With a high-quality, varied and challenging caseload, you’ll advise on a wide range of general commercial matters such as public procurement, dispute resolution, intellectual property, construction agreements, supply agreements, debt recovery, externally funded projects and Carbon Net Zero and Biodiversity Net Gain projects. You can expect to work with external public, private and third sector partners as well as engaging with other lawyers. Demonstrating strong client focus, you’ll provide practical, accurate, timely and risk-based advice.

What do I need?

A qualified solicitor, barrister or chartered legal executive with current rights to practise in England, you have an excellent track-record of handling complex legal and technical issues, including commercial matters. Experience of civil litigation, procurement law, construction law, intellectual property law or public law would be helpful but is not essential, providing you have the aptitude to get up to speed rapidly on new legal issues and areas of law. You’re equipped to write clear, detailed legal briefings for use at a senior level, and have the ability to advise others on the direction and conduct of casework. The confidence and communication skills to influence and persuade a wide range of people are also important.

What’s in it for you?

You’ll benefit from a culture that embraces difference and includes everyone, where you’ll feel supported and trusted to do the right thing. We’ll invest in you and allow you to grow and shape your career. What’s more, you’ll have access to our great benefits package including:

  • A competitive salary of £47,646
  • 25 days holiday + 8 bank holidays
  • Great career opportunities
  • Maternity, paternity and adoption leave scheme
  • A range of flexible working options

As an organisation we strive to reflect the communities we serve, to achieve this we welcome applications from all backgrounds regardless of race, sexual orientation, and religion. We also welcome applications for part-time hours.
