As a Legal Counsel in our Consumer Legal team, you will give industry-leading advice to Sky’s most creative and innovative people and lead on industry issues concerning the design, sale and marketing of Sky’s wide range of products and services including Sky TV, Sky Broadband, Sky Talk, Sky Mobile and NOW TV.


What you’ll do:

  • Act as a key contact for Sky’s fast paced sales & marketing and product teams for advice on day-to-day consumer issues. This may include liaison with consumer-facing regulatory bodies such as the ASA, Clearcast, Ofcom, the FCA, Trading Standards, and with Sky’s competitors.
  • Lead and support on product and service propositions from initial concept to development, launch and beyond, including customer contracts.
  • Advise on broadcast and non-broadcast advertising, campaign development and product / service claims development.
  • Advise on customer sales journeys and processes, including consumer contract terms and the provision of key information.
  • Advise on the impact and implementation of consumer regulation and contributing to the development of new consumer policy and law in consultation with industry regulators and the business, including managing or supporting on Sky’s response to consumer regulatory consultations, reviews and investigations.
  • Support the continuous improvement and development initiates in the Consumer Legal team.
  • Produce and roll out guidance to the business, including compliance functions.

What you’ll bring:

  • A qualified lawyer with strong academics and experience in private practice or in a leading in-house team, ideally with experience in the pay TV, telecommunications, digital services or general retail sectors;
  • Technical experience in consumer law and a proven ability to shape and influence commercial decisions through own technical ability and providing practical and implementable advice and options;
  • A positive mindset, someone who will relish change, embrace new ways of working, challenge existing processes and enjoy exploring new ideas;
  • A great team player who enjoys supporting their colleagues and has strong interpersonal, resilience and communication skills;
  • Strong relationships, being recognised and able to influence at senior levels;
  • Highly motivated individual with the ability to think creatively, with excellent attention to detail, and an ability to find sound solutions to challenging legal, operational and commercial issues;
  • Ability to organise, prioritise and plan effectively so as to keep delivery on track and manage unanticipated tasks;
  • Ability to make sound risk assessments in the context of business priorities and to help others to do so, and to know when to escalate matters; and
  • A strong desire to learn and develop.

Team Overview


The Consumer Legal team works closely with the business as part of a wider directorate which is one of four in Legal and Business Affairs, whose 100+ lawyers boast a wide range of expertise, reflecting the scope of Sky’s business.


The team comprises around 10 people and forms part of the Consumer, Competition, Distribution and Partnerships directorate which comprises around 27 people. The role will report to a Senior Legal Counsel.
