The role:

We are recruiting for the role of Legal Counsel in Sky Legal’s Corporate Services Directorate to support the Technology, Media and Enterprise Services (“TME”) Legal Team which supports the Sky business areas on commercial contracting for:

  • Supply-side systems, services and licensing for Technology, Sales and Marketing, Customer Services Group, Corporate and Executive Services, HR and Finance enterprise shared services;
  • Systems and services involving processing of personal data, including sensitive personal data, and information security controls and standards.
  • Supporting the TME team involves a wide and interesting range of legal work. This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a first class in-house legal team, collaborating closely with other legal and business teams across Sky UK, the Sky Group and Comcast/NBCU in relation to commercial contracts. The role offers a great variety of cutting-edge commercial work and first-class opportunities for development and growth. We’re looking for someone with commercial contracting experience (including data protection knowledge), who would enjoy working in our energetic and fun team, and who is eager to learn.

    What you’ll do:

  • Advise stakeholders on legal and commercial risks, potential impacts and propose business focused solutions.
  • Negotiate and draft commercial contracts autonomously, including agreements relating to technology licensing, marketing, sponsorship, processing of personal data and intellectual property.
  • Review and update standard terms and precedents to streamline processes and drive operating efficiencies.
  • Build effective relationships with your commercial and legal colleagues and the wider Sky business.
  • Assist in instructing, supervising the work of and liaising with external counsel and managed legal service providers.
  • Report progress to relevant stakeholders and the TME legal team regularly to enable the effectively delivery of the legal team’s objectives.
  • What you’ll bring:

  • Qualified UK lawyer or lawyer from a jurisdiction based on UK law with commercial contract experience (newly qualified lawyers with some commercial experience are welcome to apply)
  • Understanding of software licensing, IP licensing and or technology infrastructure agreements
  • Data protection experience
  • Ability to identify and summarise key issues, risks and impact of risks for stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills
  • A commercial, collaborative and pragmatic standout colleague
