Job Description

The University of Law – Tutor, Manchester

Apply here by 31 May 2021

The University of Law (ULaw) is one of the world’s largest law schools. With an impressive history dating back to 1876, we employ over 900 staff and have over 14,000 students studying on our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, along with an alumni network in excess of 100,000. We were the first-ever independent institution to be granted degree awarding powers and in 2012 we gained university title. With a rich heritage and a reputation for innovation and contemporary teaching practices, we continuously focus on developing the best legal and business minds. In 2016, we opened our leading Business School, further enhancing our reputation as a full service legal, business and educational training specialist, operating from campuses throughout the UK, Berlin and Hong Kong and an Online campus.

Due to significant student growth, we are looking to recruit Tutors or Senior Tutors to join us on our exciting journey.

We currently have vacancy for a Tutor or Senior Tutor at our Manchester campus with potential for the successful applicant to also undertake work from our Liverpool University and/or Chester University Campuses.

This is an opportunity to inspire and develop the next generation of legal talent by providing tuition across the University of Law course portfolio. You will be a qualified legal professional with a genuine passion for quality and excellence, who can demonstrate successful legal practice experience.  You will enjoy being challenged (by students and course content in equal measure) and be able to adapt to the different learning styles of students and methods of course delivery.

You will be eager to share your expertise and become involved in all aspects of enhancing the student experience within our campus.  Please note that classes are also routinely delivered over weekends and evenings and tutors are expected to work flexibly within these parameters.

We are particularly interested in hearing from applicants across the range of subject disciplines offered at undergraduate and postgraduate level at ULaw Manchester, Liverpool and Chester campuses; in particular those who could provide tuition within Dispute Resolution, Property, Criminal or Business law, and also applicants who are solicitor advocates or barristers who can teach on the Bar Practice Course in Civil and/or Criminal law which is offered at both Manchester and Liverpool University campuses.

We offer an excellent range of competitive benefits including a generous annual leave allowance, private medical scheme, contributory pension scheme, life assurance, training and qualifications, and travel loans. As part of the tutor development programme, we will also support you to study for a recognised teaching qualification within your first 18 months of employment.

For an informal discussion about the role please contact David Molyneux david.molyneux@law.ac.uk or Sara Brett sara.brett@law.ac.uk

Interviews will be held w/c 7th and w/c 14th June 2021

No agencies please.

Some posts within the University are subject to a DBS check – you will be notified of this during the application process.

As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons. However, as Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic individuals are currently under-represented within the University – which does not reflect our diverse student body – we would particularly welcome applications from BAME candidates. All appointments will be made on merit.
