The University of Law (ULaw) is one of the world’s largest law schools. With an impressive history dating back to 1876, we employ over 900 staff and have over 14,000 students studying on our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, along with an alumni network in excess of 100,000. We were the first-ever independent institution to be granted degree awarding powers and in 2012 we gained university title. With a rich heritage and a reputation for innovation and contemporary teaching practices, we continuously focus on developing the best legal and business minds. In 2016, we opened our leading Business School, further enhancing our reputation as a full service legal, business and educational training specialist, operating from campuses throughout the UK, Berlin and Hong Kong and an Online campus.
What really sets us apart from other universities is the guiding principle that future lawyers and business leaders should learn in a realistic, professional and contemporary context, with plenty of practical interactive engagement. That’s why we keep our contact hours high and our teaching groups small.
We are looking to recruit three full-time tutors who will provide tuition to students on the courses delivered at both the Guildford and Reading campuses which include the Legal Practice Course (LPC), the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL), the LLB, the Professional Skills Course and from Autumn 2021, the preparation courses for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination. These full-time role will involve providing pastoral care to students as well as marking students’ assessments and participating in students’ co-curricular activities.
For this role, you will need to be a qualified solicitor or barrister. Experience of Dispute Resolution, Real Estate and / or Family practice and an ability to teach some or all of those subjects on the LPC and Land Law on the GDL and LLB would be an advantage. You will have a genuine passion for excellence and will be able to demonstrate successful practice experience. You will enjoy being challenged (by students and course content in equal measure) and be able to adapt to the different learning styles of students and methods of course delivery. You will be eager to share your expertise and become involved in all aspects of enhancing the student experience within our campuses.
For an informal discussion about the role please contact Sarah Pooley on 01483 216812 or email sarah.pooley@law.ac.uk.
We offer an excellent range of competitive benefits including a generous annual leave allowance, private medical scheme, contributory pension scheme, life assurance, training and qualifications, and travel loans. As part of the tutor development programme, we will also support you to study for a recognised teaching qualification within your first 18 months of employment.
Please note, CVs will not be considered and only application forms are accepted for this role.
