Job Description

Senior Legal Counsel & Manager – Commercial Focus (maternitycover/FTC)

Salary:  Circa £90,000 (plus a strong flexible benefits package and pension offering)

Location:  London

The Bank of England is the UK’s central bank. Our 4,000-strong team maintain monetary and financial stability for the good of the country and the British people. The issues we deal with affect everyone. Support our vital work. Join the Bank of England team.

As Senior Legal Counsel & Manager, you’ll be part of an award-winning legal team, working at the frontier of financial services. You’ll join around 150 colleagues from many different legal and cultural backgrounds for 9-12 months, to cover a maternity leave. The growing diversity of our legal team is matched only by the diversity of our legal work. The Legal Directorate (LD) has a wide-ranging legal advisory and support role, and much of its work is unique.

A senior lawyer, you’ll tackle primarily commercial, procurement, IT and outsourcing matters. It’s a chance to lead major, technically complex projects and manage a team of up to four lawyers. They’ll look to you for coaching, vision and support, so you’ll need to bring the kind of leadership that helps people thrive. Together, you and your team will work with colleagues across the Bank, building strong relationships and providing expert support.

Ideally, you’ll have worked in commercial, procurement, IT and outsourcing before. However, if you have experience in other areas – plus the drive to learn – we’d like to hear to hear from you. What’s important is proven technical knowledge, good commercial awareness and excellent drafting skills. We’ll also be looking for the ability to advise senior figures, build networks and manage a team.

Join us and you’ll be part of a diverse team where everyone’s free to excel. The Bank of England is proud to be a Disability Confident Employer and an inclusive organisation, with great work-life balance.
