We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced regulation lawyer who thrives on challenge. Our clients’ problems are many and varied and your job is to be the calm at the center of their storm; the person who they can trust to sort it out. Our team handles all kinds of reputation management, professional disciplinary and regulatory investigations work, for a broad range of clients. Our role is helping with protecting the reputations of individuals through to organisations and corporate entities. We handle everything from effective crisis management through to project-based solutions.


Our ideal candidate? You’ll be able to demonstrate a wide range of understanding how the civil and criminal jurisdictions interact, especially in connection with reputational and regulatory matters and how best to assist our clients. Above all, you are a problem solver.


What you could be doing – some recent examples

  • Preparing and prosecuting a matter to a “Rolls Royce” standard for a land owner against commercial operations in a statutory nuisance case
  • Assist broadcasters in the protection of their branding and Intellectual Property Rights by advising and representing them in both civil and criminal cases for breaches of their IPR in relation to live sports broadcasting and general programming ranging from Premier League football through to pay per view world championship boxing and event broadcasting
  • Advising a Premier League football club as general counsel regarding media coverage and reputational issues of the club and its players and employees
  • Obtaining an interim injunction to stop a former employee of a UK-based concierge company from divulging information relating to reputational issues involving a Middle Eastern royal family and government
  • Preparing a response/objection to a POCA 2002 Moratorium Extension Order on behalf of a Dutch company’s UK-based operations
  • Advising a solicitor on the detailed steps involved in a SRA investigation
  • Advising an international charity as to defamatory and discriminatory messages on social media originating from other international reach organisations and ensuring a full public retraction and apology being issued
  • Supporting a partner in the Property & Housing Litigation team whose client required advice about harassment and other reputational issues
  • Representing company directors in connection with BIS, FCA and SFO investigations into global business practices and civil and criminal jurisdiction issues arising
  • Advising individuals and organisations on Protection from Harassment Act 1997 disputes
  • Prosecuting an individual for Fraud Act 2006 offences as a result of their offering services as an architect when not qualified
  • Advising regulated individuals and companies as to how to deal with regulatory disciplinary investigations
  • Providing compliance and regulatory advice for a High Net Worth family and the interaction between their Trust framework and the operations of their businesses
  • Assisting a rugby player on the issues he faced following his sending off for racially abusive comments to another player
  • Ensuring High Net Worth individuals and families have effective crisis management and ongoing reputational advice procedures in place
  • Preparing and instigating private criminal proceedings to enforce individual and organisations rights in relation to matters from fraud through to Intellectual Property Rights to Fraud Act 2006 actions

What you’re like

  • a solicitor of between 4 to 8 years PQE with a strong practice as a specialist regulatory litigation lawyer

The Key Responsibilities and Duties of the role


Core Legal Duties:

  • to consistently provide a high quality experience to our clients in terms of service delivery
  • to develop and maintain good client relationship skills, gaining clients’ confidence and that of your colleagues
  • to develop new business opportunities
  • to receive requests for legal advice from current and potential clients and deciding on the most appropriate responses to make to these requests
  • to establish what needs to be done to solve a client’s problems
  • to offer advice on the law, legal procedures and a wide range of associated issues
  • to attend and represent Russell Cooke at client meetings
  • to draw up legal documents
  • to research documents and case history to ensure accuracy of advice and procedures
  • to represent clients in tribunals and in Courts where required

  • to comply with procedures set out in Russell Cooke’s Office Manual, professional standards and any requirement set by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA)
